Accessibility audit and remediation for a SEBI-registered investment adviser

A SEBI-registered investment advisory engaged us to bring its investor-facing platform in line with WCAG 2.2 and SEBI's accessibility expectations - audit first, then hands-on remediation and a verification re-test.

Engagement

Accessibility audit followed by remediation and verification re-test

Scope

Investor-facing web platform. Client anonymised; engagement details published with permission.

The situation

  • SEBI has made digital accessibility a compliance obligation for market intermediaries and investor-facing platforms, not merely a design preference.
  • As a registered investment adviser, the firm needed defensible evidence that its investor journeys were usable by people with disabilities - and a route to fixing whatever fell short.
  • An audit alone would have left the firm holding a list of problems. The engagement was therefore scoped as audit plus remediation from the outset.

How we approached it

  • Scope and inventory: map page templates, investor journeys and component patterns to define a representative sample rather than testing pages at random.
  • Automated baseline: Axe-core, Lighthouse and Wave to surface machine-detectable issues quickly.
  • Manual assistive-technology testing: screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack), keyboard-only traversal, and zoom/reflow - the roughly two-thirds of issues automation cannot find.
  • Findings mapped to both WCAG 2.2 success criteria and SEBI's expectations, so the report works as compliance evidence and as a developer task list.

What was delivered

  • WCAG 2.2 conformance report with severity scoring
  • Issue tracker export with reproduction steps and code-level locations
  • Hands-on remediation of the identified defects
  • Verification re-test of remediated issues
  • Conformance statement suitable for internal compliance review

Outcome

  • Defects were fixed at source rather than masked by an overlay widget, so the improvements survive future releases.
  • The firm holds dated, methodology-backed evidence it can produce if its accessibility position is questioned.
  • Remediation patterns were handed to the development team so new work starts accessible instead of regressing.
